NEW! MOVING MEDITATION CLASSES

Offered weekly by Gianna at Mountain Bodhi, this class reflects Gianna's many years of study in varied methods and schools of meditation. Every week is different! You learn” how to” meditate if you are a beginner, to deepen your practice if you are more advanced, and to observe and experience your authentic self free from perceptions, expectations, personality, mind and other hindrances, because as the Heart Sutra says, “without any hindrances no fears exist.”

Moving Meditation & QiGong blends inner with outer movement (breathing, imagery, meridian energy clearing, and "dance". The Eight Brocades, sitting and standing are taught in a series, a few each time. Gianna was influenced by Thich Nat Han’s "walking meditation", and observed from her own experience the benefits for mind and emotion of movement to induce clearing and healing in a way that reaches deep into cellular memory.

The Heart Chakra Dance© from her Reiki Healing Dance™ Course and Undo (Japanese Movement), along with expressive, interpretive, kinetic and popular dance, inspired the Movement Meditation series.

Gianna says, "I do teach form but at the same time I encourage everyone to express themselves in my classes in their own way and have fun doing it--- because I like the journey more than the destination. The possiibilities that open up with experimentation are limitless."

All classes are Reiki facilitated but no dance or energy healing experience is needed to attend. Learning Reiki itself is not itself part of these meditation class but can be studied separately at a reduced rate for regular meditation students.

I hope what follows helps you to understand my approach combining outer and inner movement in these Meditation Classes:

Dance & Movement Training was primarily in New York City as a scholarship student with the American Ballet Theater, and with many of the "greats" of European and Russian ballet, the Martha Graham School, and jazz teachers such as Luigi and Max Mattox. I later lived and worked in Paris, France where I danced professionally as a jazz and ballet soloist with Theatre du Chatelet and other theaters. A little known fact of questionable significance is that jazz daner Danny Strayhorn and I created the Funky Chicken for Polydor Records (yes, it's really true).

Back in the States I studied Ballroom and was especially attracted to Latin and Argentine Tango. I studied Yoga, Tai Chi and Qi Gong with with several instructors (among them the amazing 96 year old QiGong Master Duan Zhi Liang of Beijing). The influence of all of these movement forms show up in Reiki Healing Dance™ which I teach in the US and Internationally.

During and after psychology graduate school I attended numerous workshops and training programs, to name a few: hypnosis with Theodore X. Barber and Milton Erickson, Progressive Relaxation, Biofeedback, EMDR. Energy medicine became a specialty and I attended workshops given by many amazing people such as Bernie Siegel (Love, Medicine and Miracles), Jon Kabat-Zinn (Wherever You Go, There You Are), Caroline Myss (Why People Don’t Heal), Mona Lisa Schultz (Awakening Intuition). After over 25 years of Clinical Psychology private practice, I am no longer involved with conventional treatment but instead combine Reiki with Emotional Healing and Energy Psychology into my treatment sessions.

Meditation Training as a teenager was with Sri Paramahansa Yogananda's Self Realization Fellowship. It was a wonderful introduction. Baptised Roman Catholic, I respect my roots, and at the same time I continue seeking ways that fit with my philosophy in which prayer is based upon "spirituality", not "religion." Some 20 years ago I took Refuge in Tibetan Buddhism in the Nyingmapa (lineage of the Kempo Rimpoches) and later in the Gelugpa (Khen Rinpoche Geshe Lobsang Tsetan) tradition of the Dalai Lama. I have twice traveled in Nepal to experience these ways and traditions first hand. I look forward to the spiritual healing that takes place when going quietly inward, whether in a Benedictine monastary or a Zen dojo.

My approach to Meditation reflects my belief that there are many pathways to healing, no one right way. Being Italian, another way to say this is "all roads lead to Rome."

NAMASTE!

What is Meditation Anyway?

First of all, meditation is good for your soul. It really has little to do with concepts such as emptying your mind or controlling thoughts and emotions. Meditation invites you into awareness of whatever IS with acceptance and to practice non-attachment --- a life-long endeavor!!! Simply, it is a way of BEING that brings joy and harmony, not just method or technique. As such, anyone can do it!

Meditation became popular in the United States in the 1960’s promoting Eastern philosophy and teachings from Hindu, Taoist, or Buddhist traditions and it has now exploded into hundreds of specialty forms in yoga, QiGong and other practices. Gurus from India such as the Maharishi Maharesh Yogi (founder of Transcendental Meditation) inspired seekers to study new ways of experiencing consciousness. However, meditation has been around forever in the form of centering prayer.

The goal of meditation is to immerse oneself into the stillness of inner peace, the center, while still retaining a clarity of awareness. How to get there? By not putting pressure on oneself, by accepting what is happening in the moment, by breathing, by being mindful of every small thing, and by letting go of ego and expectations (at least for a few moments). Then spiritual awakening can take place. Some refer to it as true consciousness. It also gives us a way to be centered enough to practice allowance with compassion (that means progress not perfection) while living in the world.

The body is only a vehicle for the spirit. This idea helps us to be less dependent upon the physical and emotional, and to focus more upon the spiritual aspects of ourselves, reminding us to let go of anxiety and anger, to be grateful, and to show love and respect for oneself and others. In fact, these are the Reiki Ideals, the 5 precepts that make up the core of Reiki philosophy. They help us to not lose sight of who we really are.
